Team productivity is directly tied to team members’ attitude. Those with a positive, can-do attitude achieve lots. Those with a negative, pessimistic attitude achieve little. As managers, it is critical for us to pay attention to where each team member sits from 10 to 0 on the “Tude-O-Meter” below:
10 – “I am fully committedand will pick up the slack for anybody who isn’t.”
9 – “Nothing will get in the way of me achieving my goals.”
8 – “I’ll push myself to do a great job.”
7 – “I’ll work hard to do a good job, but there’s only so much I can control.”
6 – “I want to do well, but I’m not going to drive myself crazy.”
5 – “I’m not happy, but I know I have to fulfill my responsibilities.”
4 – “I’ll do only what I need to in order to get by.”
3 – “I’m checked out and not trying hard at all.”
2 – “I’m having a hard time hiding my negative attitude from others.”
1 – “I don’t even care if others know that I have a negative attitude.”
0 – “I am miserable and will undermine the team’s efforts.”
How can leaders use the “Tude-O-Meter” to impact their team’s productivity?
